  • What to Expect

First, schedule a complimentary phone consultation.
Once you schedule this, I’ll send you a 5 minute questionnaire to fill out before we talk.

We’ll talk for about 20 minutes and see if I’m the right fit for you – if not I will give you referral ideas – so it’s a win/win.

If we decide it’s a good fit, we’ll schedule your first appointment while we’re on the phone. I’ll then send you a link to create your own personalized client portal.

What are the benefits of the Online Portal?

Intake Documents Available Prior to your First Session
    Shared Documents/Assessments
    Access to Billing Documents
Easy Bill Paying and Safe Credit Card Storing

    Before Your First Appointment

You’ll already have access to your client portal so you’ll be able to complete the intake documents from the comfort of your own home before our first session. This saves time during our initial session and you won’t have to show up early to do paperwork. I’ll also be able to review your documents and get to know you a little more before we even start the session. I’ll also have a more in-depth idea of what’s bringing you in, which can also help you to feel more at ease. Then once you’re here – we can jump right in or (ease in if that feels better – whatever is more comfortable for you!)

My focus is on making you feel as comfortable and at-ease from the very beginning of this process.

    During your first appointment

The number one priority is building our therapeutic relationship so we’ll talk about some things from the past, current issues you would like to tackle and we’ll begin setting some goals to work on together.

It’s super normal to feel nervous about our first session.

Let me put some of those nerves at ease. My clients and I like to use pop culture and characters from shows/movies to explain ourselves or people in our lives so there will be lots of fun and laughing – therapy doesn’t have to be ALL serious ALL the time!

Understanding your learning and communication style is important to me so we’ll definitely spend some time chatting about fun things. I want to know what shows and podcasts you’re into and how you like to stay in touch with friends and family – all the things that make you YOU! It’s important so we can figure out what techniques will be in line with your natural strengths.

Sessions will be between 50-60 minutes. Usually at about 45 minutes we’ll do a recap and figure out what you want to really focus on in the next week – this is where we’ll figure out HOMEWORK

which could be anything from 5 minutes of journaling a day

to bingeing Queer Eye on Netflix to learn more about self-care

Some of my clients want in-depth challenging and reflective assignments – I’ve got something for everyone!

In the beginning of working together, weekly therapy is required. I know that sounds a bit intense. Listen, I’ve been doing this for YEARS and I know what works. The clients who are consistent with weekly therapy in the beginning make the most progress. It’s been studied – consistency and building a solid relationship between client and therapist is what allows us to do the best and most effective work together.

Still wondering how all of this therapy stuff works?

    What to Expect

Show up. You just have to show up and we’ll go from there. Some people need me to ask a lot of questions (which is one of my specialties!) Some people need to talk and process specific issues and events and want feedback. It will vary and that is absolutely fine. I don’t do cookie-cutter, generic therapy. I meet my clients where they are. Your job is to be open-minded and willing to dig a little deeper than you might be used to. You might feel a bit of discomfort emotionally, but we’ll work through it together. My goal is that you leave each session with more clarity on at least one issue, than you had prior to beginning our session.
In the beginning of working together, weekly therapy is required. My observations after 12 years of therapy practice is the clients who are consistent with weekly therapy in the beginning make the most progress. It’s been studied – consistency and building a solid relationship between client and therapist is what allows us to do the best and most effective work together. During our initial phone consultation we’ll talk about this and make sure you are committed to this type of consistency. Not everyone is and not all therapists require weekly sessions so it’s entirely OK if I’m not the right fit and I’m happy to help you find someone who is.
